How much does land clearing cost in LaBelle and Hendry County?
Rough estimates only. The per-acre ranges below are general ballpark figures to help you budget. They are not quotes, they are not from a survey, and real prices in LaBelle, Clewiston and the rest of Hendry and Glades County vary widely from job to job. The only reliable number is a written quote from a provider who has walked your land. We are a referral service and do not set prices.
Land clearing in Southwest Florida is almost always priced by the job, the acre, or the machine day. Two parcels of the same size on the same road can differ in price by thousands of dollars, because what actually drives cost is what is growing on the land, how big it is, how wet the ground is, and what has to happen to the debris. This guide explains the typical ranges, the factors that push a job toward the low or high end, and how to get quotes you can compare.
Typical rough ranges by type of work
| Type of work | Rough range (estimate, varies) | What it usually includes |
|---|---|---|
| Light brush / underbrush clearing | roughly $500 – $1,500 per acre | Palmetto, small shrubs and vines cut or mulched; trees you want kept stay standing |
| Forestry mulching, moderate growth | roughly $1,500 – $3,500 per acre | Standing brush and small trees ground in place; mulch left on the ground; roots stay |
| Forestry mulching, heavy pepper / dense thicket | roughly $3,000 – $6,000 per acre | Dense Brazilian pepper, larger stems, slower machine progress |
| Full clearing with grubbing and haul-off or burning | roughly $3,000 – $8,000+ per acre | Trees removed, stumps and roots pulled, debris hauled, burned (with authorization) or piled |
| Residential lot clearing (about 1/4 – 1.25 acres) | roughly $1,500 – $6,000 per lot | Pad, driveway and septic area cleared; often a minimum charge applies |
| Stump grinding | often priced per stump or by diameter, with a trip minimum | Stumps ground below grade; grindings left or removed |
For a real-world reference point, one independent company publishes Clewiston-area forestry mulching day rates starting around $3,000 per skid-steer machine day, with larger machines starting around $3,500 to $4,000 per day plus transport (floridalandclearing.com Clewiston rate card). That company reports that many jobs up to about 2.5 acres finish in one machine day. Day rates like these are why small parcels often cost more per acre than large ones: you are paying for the machine and the trip, not only the ground.
What pushes the price up or down
1. Vegetation type and density
Open pine flatwoods with scattered palmetto clear quickly. Dense Brazilian pepper is the opposite: it grows in tangled, multi-stem clumps, resprouts after cutting, and slows a mulcher down. Cabbage palms are tough on mulching heads. Large oaks and slash pines may call for an excavator or a saw crew rather than a mulcher.
2. Stem diameter
Most skid-steer mulchers handle stems up to roughly 6 to 8 inches comfortably. Bigger trees need larger, more expensive machines or felling first. Tell providers the diameter of the largest tree you want removed.
3. Roots and stumps
Mulching leaves roots in the ground, which is fine for pasture, trails and views. A house pad, driveway or septic drain field usually needs the stumps and roots grubbed out, which adds excavator time and often haul-off. See forestry mulching vs. traditional clearing for how to choose.
4. Ground conditions and season
Much of Hendry County is flat, sandy and poorly drained. In the summer wet season (roughly June to September) low ground and the muck soils near Lake Okeechobee around Clewiston and Moore Haven can get too soft for tracked equipment, which means delays or higher prices. Many owners book heavier work in the drier months, roughly November to May.
5. Debris handling
Leaving mulch on site is usually the cheapest. Hauling debris to a disposal site adds trucking and tipping fees. Burning on site requires an authorization from the Florida Forest Service, and Hendry County asks for either disposal receipts or the burn authorization number with a clearing permit. See our permits guide.
6. Access, transport and distance
Rural parcels around Felda, Montura and Pioneer can be a long haul for equipment. Expect a mobilization or transport fee, and tell providers about gates, soft roads or canal crossings.
7. Permits, surveys and extras
Permit fees, a boundary survey, a wetlands determination, or gopher tortoise surveys and relocation are separate costs from the clearing itself. They can be significant on some parcels, so ask early.
How to get quotes you can compare
- Have your parcel ID and acreage from the Hendry or Glades County Property Appraiser.
- Mark what must stay: specimen trees, fence lines, wetland edges.
- Say whether you need roots removed or just above-ground clearing.
- Ask each provider to state what is included: debris handling, transport, permit help, and how they price (acre, day or job).
- Confirm the provider's license and insurance, for example at myfloridalicense.com, and get the scope in writing.
When you request quotes through this site, we pass your details to an independent local provider who can look at the land and give you an actual price.
